DIY Car Vent Charms + Coat Hook Charms

Did anyone else get enchanted by the clay magnets that were all over TikTok this winter? They were such a cute and easy way to personalize your home. Now, let’s take that same idea and make our cars more personal.

When I was trying to buy different items to personalize my car, I couldn’t find anything that was the perfect touch. So creating these DIY car charms and car hooks were the perfect solution.

If this is something you’re interested in trying out for yourself, here are the items you’ll need, the steps to make them, and also several suggestions.

Supplies Needed

Oven-baked Premo Clay – I have heard this is the best oven-baked clay to use because it is the longest lasting.

Resin/Epoxy – I’ve used this set several times and it’s my favorite. Also, please make sure you are doing this in a well-vented area.

How to Make Them

1. Make your clay designs. Keep in mind, the car vent charms need to be very small. Smaller than a clay magnet. I didn’t measure it, but I would say each of mine were about 1-2 inches. I made the hook charms about 3 inches.

    2. Bake your items based on the instructions of the package.

    3. Paint your charms and let them fully dry. They should be fully dry before the next step.

    4. Mix your Epoxy/Resin based on the instructions. If you put them on wax paper, when they dry, they won’t stick. In my experience, you will use far less than you think. They should be totally dry before you move on to the next steps.

    5. Using E-6000 glue your charms onto the car vent clips and car hooks. Be aware you should prop your car hooks up so the charm doesn’t slide off with the wet glue. Maybe even let your car hooks dry a little before you set them down.

You should let these dry over night to really let the glue set.

These are pictures of magnets I made for my friends for Christmas. I wish I had better pictures, but this is as good as I have.
